Hawkwind

Lemmy in Hawkwind

This post is from the June 2006 issue of the Mojo magazine CD which provides a compilation of 15 bands from different musical scenes who predated and set the foundation for the punk explosion of 1976. The track I have posted here is from Hawkwind.

Motörhead was the last song written by Lemmy before he was drummed out of Hawkwind after his bust at the Canadian border, Motörhead also gave the bassist the name of his next band. Lemmy and Motörhead were welcomed by the punk crowd; Hawkwind also remained an influence on such as the Sex Pistols who, reforming a couple of years back, opened their set with a cover of Silver Machine.

AC/DC V's Henry Rollins & The Hard-Ons

AC/DC

AC/DC surely need no introduction. Possibly Australia's most famous and successful band. Bon Scott was from Fremantle, the port city 30 mins south of Perth.

Henry Rollins was the lead vocalist for Black Flag and has had a successful solo career, with both musical and spoken word releases and performances. He is also a storyteller, author, actor, poet, comedian, and radio and TV personality.

The Hard-Ons have had 17 consecutive number 1’s on the independent charts in Australia. TV appearances on major shows in Japan, England, Germany, Finland, Spain, France and Greece! A top 10 hit in Spain, a top 5 hit in Greece! The only Australian band still based in Australia to hit the top 5 in the NME charts (in 1989, with LP "Love is a Battlefield of Wounded Hearts"). If you don't know the Hard-Ons, it's time you did.
