Hawkwind

Lemmy in Hawkwind

This post is from the June 2006 issue of the Mojo magazine CD which provides a compilation of 15 bands from different musical scenes who predated and set the foundation for the punk explosion of 1976. The track I have posted here is from Hawkwind.

Motörhead was the last song written by Lemmy before he was drummed out of Hawkwind after his bust at the Canadian border, Motörhead also gave the bassist the name of his next band. Lemmy and Motörhead were welcomed by the punk crowd; Hawkwind also remained an influence on such as the Sex Pistols who, reforming a couple of years back, opened their set with a cover of Silver Machine.

Hey, synchronicity! I was just talking about Hawkwind on my blog.

Great Lemmy picture. He is doing some kind of rockabilly thing with the Stray Cats' drummer.

There is a good inteview with Lemmy in July issue of Mojo.
I must say I thought it rather a shame that you lifted word for word from Mojo, maybe you are tired after the excellent Triffids post

hey jon, i'd like to see your Hawkwind blog entry. i didn't know about the Lemmy and Slim Jim band (The Head Cat). What i've heard sounds good - thanks for the heads up!!

hey abramson, i've just picked up the latest Mojo, so will read the Lemmy article soon. I've been posting verbatim from Mojo for a year now (ironically i seem to get as many comments for the quick blogs as for the big ones such as The Triffids) - so expect to see a Beatles cover in this blog soon

I really don't know much about Hawkwind (or Gong, or space rock in general). I've heard Thin White Rope's version of "Silver Machine" as well as the Hawkwind originals of that song and "Motorhead". And I know that Helios Creed from Chrome played with Hawkwind for awhile.

I was writing on my blog about an Atlanta band of Hawkwind devotees called Spaceseed, who have played with Nik Turner: http://underneathica.blogspot.com/2006/06/spaceseed-and-cocktail-girlz.html
